BUYER
 

OVERVIEW:  Responsible for purchasing transactions for various industrial commodities, such as metals, wire, component parts, and supplies.  Receives and reviews requisitions requesting goods or services. Interviews and confers with vendors to obtain product or service information, such as price, availability, and delivery schedule.

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:  

  • Purchase materials and services including, but not limited to, metals, wire, component parts, plating, heat treating and supplies.
  • Review master schedule for adjustments in sales orders and adjust material purchases as needed.
  • Ensure delivery dates are met by suppliers.
  • Review requisitions.
  • Confer with vendors to obtain product for service information such as price, availability and delivery schedule.
  • Coordinate, as appropriate, quality matters and engineering changes/developments between company activities and suppliers.
  • Develop and maintain supplier relationships.
  • Research and qualify new suppliers including supplier visits. 
  • Pursue cost reduction and cost avoidance opportunities.
  • Expedite materials, supplies and services.
  • Negotiate prices, terms, delivery, and conditions of purchase from suppliers for a variety of assigned commodities.
  • Prepare Purchasing Department reports and reviews to include cost reviews, price predictions, effects of material costs on products, supplier capacity, etc.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:

  • 2 plus years of current purchasing experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • 2 plus years experience in the procurement of various raw materials and commodities with both domestic and international suppliers.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Computer proficient (Microsoft Office, planning software)
  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings.
  • Ability to work effectively with all areas of the company.
  • Mathematical skills and the ability to perform cost and financial analysis.
  • Bachelor’s degree in business, economics, or one of the applied sciences.
  • Strong negotiation skills.

 

PREFERENCES:

  • Certification in any of the following (CPM, CPSM, CPP, CPPM, CSCP)
