A printer manufacturer needed a closed loop pneumatic position control system to raise and lower a platen underneath print heads. The actuator needed to be able to maintain the platen within a fraction of an inch of the printer heads in the event of a power failure to prevent ink from drying.
Bimba created a PFCNL with YQ option – Pneumatic cylinder with internal non-contact magnetostrictive probe and rod-lock mechanism with a matched closed loop controller. This design provided longer life and more reliable operation for the life of the machine because the probe did not wear and because of the cylinder's reliability, it could be buried in the machine without regard for accessibility. A recycling facility that burns solid waste to produce electricity used two-position actuators to open and close dampers to regulate the amount of air provided for combustion, adjusting the temperature.
The facility installed Bimba PFCN cylinders and PCS controls, which allowed the dampers to be opened to intermediate positions to control temperature more accurately, enabling tighter control of the combustion process. Bimba's solution provided better heat control, reduced pollution and improved efficiency. Learn more >>
A machine tool manufacturer wanted to focus streams of oil on the cutting surface at the apex of a bit of pierced metal. This required a slow, precise, high force, durable and compact solution.
Bimba PFCN cylinders and matching PCS controllers were the perfect closed loop solution. The PFCN cylinder mounted compactly against the side of the machining center, while the PCS controllers were mounted separately in a different location. This optimized the routing of cables, minimized space constraints, removed them from the presence of oil and cutting debris, and protected low voltage wiring from EMI. By ordering the PCS controls with connectors and cables as a "YQ" option with the cylinders, the customer saved $300 per axis, enough money to add an additional nozzle for improved lubrication and heat transfer. A trailer axel sub assembly needed a robust, yet simple and cost effective semiautomatic system to replace a manual screw jack. The design needed to be telescopic in nature because the size of the manual screw jack being replaced was minimal. In addition, the height of the finished automated assembly product meant that the actuator system needed to provide a total travel distance that was longer than the total overall length of the cylinder.
Bimba engineered a telescoping, multiple positioning system operated by one directional control valve. A set of NFPA tie rod cylinders made by TRD allowed the system to drop below the conveyor so that each assembly may pass, while a set of Bimba Original Line cylinders along with a set of stroke limiter spacers and stop blocks provided semi automatic variable positioning.
